Oatmeal Cookies
1 cup shortening
1 1/2 cup brown sugar
2 eggs
1/2 cup buttermilk
1 3/4 cup sifted all-purpose flour
1 teas. soda
1 teas. baking powder
1 teas. salt
1 teas. cinnamon
1 teas. nutmeg
3 cups quick-cooking oats
1/2 cup chopped nuts
1/2 cup raisins
Cream shortening, brown sugar and eggs till light and fluffy. Stir in buttermilk. Sift together dry ingredients, and stir into creamed mixture. Stir in rolled oats, nuts, and raisins. Drop from tablespoons 2 inches apart on greased cookie sheet. Bake 400 deg. about 8 min. cool slightly, remove from pan. Can use sweet milk instead of buttermilk, cut soda to 1/4 teas., use 2 teas. baking powder.
