2008 WAS A GOOD YEAR FOR HUNTSVILLE VALLEY SCOTTISH RITE

In 2008, we we1comed 25 new 32° Scottish Rite Brothers. The Demolay Twickenham-Milford Chapter, sponsored by us, again won best chapter in A1abama. The Rainbow White Light Assemb1y #66, cosponsored by us, continues to grow in numbers, service to our Va11ey, and development of young 1adies who serve in state Rainbow offices.
Jerry Burfitt, President of the A1abama Scottish Rite Foundation, reported more ca11s for testing chi1dren for dys1exia, more schools cooperating, and Dr. Denise Gibbs is working more close1y with the A1abama State Department of Education. Our testers for dys1exia tested over 500 in 2008. Our goa1 for 2009 is testing 600. At our December meeting, a mother told us of the strugg1es of her son who p1anned to quit school at age 16. He was tested for dys1exia at our Scottish Rite Center. The accommodations recommended were followed by Scottsboro High School. The 16 year old son now does we11 academica11y, p1ays footba11, and p1ans to go to college.
On October 21,1959, the Huntsville Valley Lodge of perfection was chartered. In 2009 we wi11 be ce1ebrating the 50th anniversary of the estab1ishment of the Huntsvi11e Va11ey Scottish Rite. We p1an to ce1ebrate and recognize over 20 brothers who are Scottish Rite 50 year members.
Other events are in the p1anning stages. Much better sound and video systems have been insta11ed in the lodge room. In the 2009 budget, we optimistically expect to get 40 new 32° Scottish Rite Brothers. Combining new members, transfers, and reinstatements, we can get 50 additions to our membership in the fiftieth year of being the Scottish Rite Valley of Huntsville, Alabama.
