ANNUAL BBQ FUNDRAISER ON TRACK FOR APRIL 18

Hard to believe that chicken cookin' & servin' time is almost upon us again! Our annual dyslexia program fund raiser will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2009, at the Cahaba Shrine picnic pavilion, RAIN OR SHINE. It takes a lot of work and planning to make this event come to fruition and be successful, so please see Jerry Burfitt or Larry Waldrup and volunteer to take part in the fun (I would say "work", but it really IS fun!!). There are all types of chores and places where your service is needed and appreciated. Meet at the Shrine Pavilion at 12 noon and after on Friday, April 17 for cleaning, slaw grinding, and chicken rubbing. Cooking starts at 5 a.m. Saturday April 18 with kitchen help needed to show up between 7 - 8 a.m.

DYSLEXIA PROGRAM GROWING FANTASTICALLY!!

The Scottish Rite Childhood Learning Program, principally for youngsters suffering from the reading disorder known as dyslexia, is growing by leaps and bounds in our Valley! Two testing personnel have been busily testing children in Huntsville and surrounding counties, and Dr. Denise Gibbs has been hard at work sponsoring workshops and information sessions for state educators. And the response has been phenomenal and overwhelmingly enthusiastic! For example, our local testing schedule is very often booked solid in advance. Dr. Gibbs ought to be considered a treasure of Alabama Scottish Rite Masonry for her tireless efforts to assist afflicted children and her staunch support of Freemasonry and our Rite. Our own Ill. Bro. Jerry Burfitt is currently President of the Alabama Scottish Rite Foundation which directs the finaces and mechanics of the Dyslexia program statewide. A special thanks also to our local dyslexia committee which is providing aggressive and innovative leadership for our charity locally, and of course, to the DeKalb-Jackson SR Club for their always outstanding efforts and productive work under the most capable leadership of Ill. Bro. G.W. York.

Visit the Alabama Scottish Rite Foundation Learning Center Website for more details and information on the exciting progress being made and the splendid services being provided.
