Descendants of Roger EASTMAN, the Emigrant to America
- William Pitt Fessenden (1806 - 1869), 5th Cousin - 4 times removed----Graduated
Bowdoin College at age 16. His God-Father was Daniel Webster. His Father was
General Samuel Fessenden. He was U.S. Congressman and U.S. Senator under
President Abraham Lincoln and President Andrew Johnson. He was also
Secretary of the Treasury under President Lincoln.
- Eugene Field (1850 - 1895), 6th Cousin - 3 times removed----- He
wrote the famous poems: "Little Boy Blue" and the "Dutch
Lullaby" (Wynken, Blynken, and Nod)
- Calvin Eastman (1760 - 1856), 4th Great Granduncle----- His wife, Lois
Standish, was the G-G-Granddaughter of Captain Myles Standish of the famed
ship "Mayflower". Calvin was a Sergeant in the Revolutionary War.
In the same unit under Captain N. Smith, he fought side-by-side with his
brothers Stephen, Cyprian, Jonathan, and Oliver Eastman. His other brother,
Enoch Eastman, was a Captain in the Revolutionary War.
- Isaac Wheeler, Jr (1768 - 1856), 4th Cousin - 5 times removed----- He was
the youngest soldier of the Revolutionary War, as far as known, at the age
of 8. He was a fifer and served with his Father, Isaac Wheeler.
- Ezekial French Eastman (1793 - 1867), 4th Cousin - 5 times
removed----- His wife, Nancy Blackwell, was a lineal descendant of
POCAHONTAS. One of their daughters, was named, Pocahontas Eastman.
- John Robie Eastman (1836 - 1913), 6th Cousin - 3 times removed-----
He was a Civil War Veteran who defended Washington, DC, during General
Early's raid on July 12 - 13 July 1864. Other engagements as well during
that War. On 7 Nov 1862 passed examination and appointed Assistant U.S.
Naval Observatory in Washington, DC. On 17 Feb 1865, appointed Professor of
Mathematics, U.S. Navy, with the rank of Lt Commander and stationed there
until his retirement in 1899. During that time attained the ranks of
Cammander and Captain. In 1898, elected the FIRST President of the
Washington Academy of Science.
- Enoch Worthen Eastman (1810 - 1885), 5th Cousin - 4 times removed----- He
was a Lawyer in Concord, NH. Removed to Burlington, IA in 1844. He authored
the Motto from Iowa on the Memorial Stone in the Washington Monument which
reads "The affections of her people, like the rivers of her border,
flow to an inseparable union." In 1863, elected Lieutenant Governor of
Iowa. He was a member of the Iowa Senate for many years and at one time
presided over the Iowa Senate.
- George Eastman (1854 - 1932), 6th Cousin - 3 times removed-----
Founder of the Eastman Kodak Company.
