MAY
My grandfather, Frank May, bought a 40 acre farm in Palermo, NJ in about 1926 just south of US 1.
My grandfather, Frank May, and his friend, Charles Schaffer, also bought 320 acres from a Mr. Courson whose son owned a bank in Ocean City. The properties went from the highway to the bay, so they called their newly formed company, THE BAY VIEW REALTY COMPANY. They had the property surveyed and divided into lots. Some of the streets were put in.
Family "legend" states that after the stock market crash, the Ocean City Bank, where the deeds and records of sale were supposedly had a small internal fire during which the records were destroyed. Some of the papers destroyed were those showing the property payments. The bank failed in 1932 and my grandfather lost all his money.
Mr. Courson, the father of the failed bank's owner, took back the land.
I am looking for any information that might relate ( confirm or deny) this story.
Where do I go to look for records? (particularly land and mortgage information) Does anyone know anything about this. I remember driving by the property back in the 60's. It was till vacant and the streets were in.
Any help would be appreciated.

COBB - BECKWORTH
Searching in general for information on COBB families in Cape May County, several of which appeared in the 1850 and 1860 US Censuses. In particular I would like more information on the COBB-BECKWORTH family.
Catherine COBB likely was born in 1787 and died of cancer on 28 Nov. 1865 at West Creek. She married Jesse BECKWORTH on 3 Apr. 1814 in Cape May County.
Jesse BECKWORTH was born about 1781 and died between 1840 and 1850 in Cape May County. The first mention of him is as a single man in the 1802 Upper Township ratable of Cape May County. He is listed in several other Upper Township ratables through 1810.
The family is listed in the 1840 US Census for Cape May Co. apparently with 3 sons and 3 daughters. In the 1860 US Census of Dennis Twp. in Cape May Co. Catherine BECKWORTH is listed as a 60 year old widow living with her 3 sons, ages 40 to 26, and a 48 year old servant woman named Sarah COBB. Perhaps Sarah is a younger sister of Catherine. The 1870 census lists Sarah COBB as the head of the household with Smith BECKWORTH and Warren BECKWORTH both living with her.
Who were the parents of Catherine COBB BECKWORTH? Was Sarah COBB a sister of Catherine?

Husband number one was Jacob Corson III whom Sarah married 4-2-1797. I understand that he was reportedly lost at sea. Any further particulars on this would be appreciated. Second husband of Sarah Johnson Corson was Nathaniel Dickenson whom she married 1-10-1804. Any information as to who his parents were and where he was from and what happened to him would be appreciated. My research indicates that Nathaniel was not out of the picture before husband #3 came on the scene. Thus, the third husband of Sarah Johnson-Corson-Dickinson was David C. Lee. I have seen a reference to David C Lee as owning a piece of property in partnership which an individual from Delaware. Does anyone have any information on David C. Lee.
