LUPTON

Christopher LUPTON, Marcy ________? I have done research in Cape May Court House and have found that even though the Grantee Indexes and Grants do not show land into Christopher, in the will of Benjamin Crawford, some of his land is described as being next to Christopher Luptons. Christopher was a deacon at Cold Spring Church, and might have been one of the founders. Crawford did not have a grant either. I learned though, that a preacher who was at Cold Spring gave land to several named individuals, and to "eighteen other men who were yeoman whalers". I suspect strongly that both my Christopher and Crawford must have been among the whalers or descendants. Would like to know Marcy's maiden name and parentage; and if anyone knows who the eighteen whalers were? 07 Apr 2001, Robert Joseph combs, w2b2i4nb@coastalnet.com

LEAMING, DECASTILE, MCDERMOTTLENNY, SCHLUTZ

I am looking for any information on my Great Grandmother Marie (or Maria) Magdalena DeCastile G. Leaming. She was born in 1879 and reportedly came from a well known family from Spain. She was engaged to be married. She came to the US to collect her trousseau and according to family tradition, she decided to not go back and get married to the person they arranged for her. Her family basically disowned her. Marie DeCastile became a ward of the court and was adopted by the Leaming family of Cape May New Jersey. She was baptized on April 16, 1898. Marie had a brother named Valentine who died of TB. She also had a sister (we don't know her name) that married a Merchant Marine Captain named P.J. Schultz (they had 3 children). Marie had another brother named John Paul Leaming who was an artisan that worked with a stained and leaded glass company (Binswinger or Bertswinger)in Richmond. She ended up marrying my Great Grandfather Dennis John McDermott. Dennis John McDermott also had an Aunt and Uncle named Cecilia and John J. Lenny. Cecilia (who most likely was a Leaming) owned property in New Jersey and Baltimore. She died in the 1940's. Marie and Dennis were married in Pennsylvania. From what I understand there are Leamings in PA as well. Dennis and Marie had 7 children. Marie Eleanor born August 10, 1901, Elizabeth Celestine born May 19, 1903, John Dennis (also known as Jack) born Dec 23, 1908, Cecelia Gertrude born September 7, 1912, Charles Peter born August 30, 1918, Hugh Vincent born December 11, 1913 and Marguerite born Oct 27, 1905 (My Grandmother).
