Below you will find the qualifications for internship and service learning positions in Art, English, Sociolology, Corrections, Theatre Arts, Recreation, Parks and Leisure
Art Department within Project G.E.M.
College students that have a major or minor in this field of interest may offer services in one of the following: Field experience, teaching, service learning, or volunteering in creative art related activities.
College students would be offering an innovative approach in art education to youth facilities such as Alternative schools, day treatment centers, group homes, and other county agencies.
College students may be teaching youth interested in art as a potential career. All college students will be a positive role model and leader within their field of interest.
All college students will be working with youth in hands-on artistic related activities to their best interest. All college students will help develop the creative area of interest in each youth for positive personal growth.
Qualifications are recommended but not restricted to the following areas:
Teaching licensure in art education
Emphasis in teaching youth ages 10-17 years old
Major or Minor in art or an art related fields
The program recommends these goals & objectives in teaching and developing the following:
Various types of art media...paint, draw, ceramic, photography, etc.
Based art education and creative self-expression
Opening up natural artistic freedom
Focusing on individual art interests
Freeing the creative spirit
Build positive self-esteem and self-confidence
At the end of the school term or completion of the art education, an art exhibit of their creative work will be displayed within the community
English Department within Project G.E.M.
College students that have a major or minor in this field of interest may offer services through field experience, teaching, service learning, or volunteering in creative art related activities.
College students would be offering an innovative approach in English education to youth facilities such as Alternative schools, day treatment centers, group homes, and other county agencies.
College students will be tutoring and teaching youth creative journal writing. All college students will be a positive role model and leader within their field of interest.
All college students will be working with youth on related English and creative journal writing activities. All college students will help develop the creative area of interest in each youth for positive personal growth.

Teaching licensure in English education
Emphasis in teaching youth ages 10-17 years old
Major or Minor in English or an English related field
The program recommends these goals & objectives in teaching and developing the following:
Positive self-expression through creative writing
Help youth improve reading and writing skills
Opening up natural writing abilities and inner reflection
Focusing on individual journal writing interests
Teaching poetry, literature, short stories, and writing activities which focus on cultural, environmental, and holistic/social education.
At the end of the school term or completion of the art education, an art exhibit of their creative work will be displayed within the community
Sociology and Corrections Department with Project G.E.M.
College students that have a major or minor in this field of interest may offer services through field experience, internship, service learning, or volunteering in social related activities.
College students would be offering an innovative approach in Sociology & Corrections to youth facilities such as Alternative schools, day treatment centers, group homes, and other county agencies.
College students may be supervisors or mentors for various activities & volunteer community events. All college students will be a positive role model and leader within their field of interest.
All college students will be working with youth in hands-on activities related to the sociology and corrections area. All college students will help develop the creative area of interest in each youth for positive personal growth.
Qualifications are recommended but not restricted to the following areas:
Teaching licensure in Sociology and Corrections
Emphasis in Social work and juvenile delinquency
Youth and social interaction skills
Major or Minor in the Sociology and Corrections
The program recommends these goals & objectives in teaching and developing the following:
Teaching team leadership skills
Drug, alcohol, violence intervention
Developing positive choices and learning coping skills
Focusing in invidual interests for better social communication
Theatre Arts Department with Project G.E.M.
College students that have a major or minor in this field of interest may offer services through field experience, internship, service learning, or volunteering in creative theatre art related activities.
College students would be offering an innovative approach in theatre arts to youth facilities such as Alternative schools, day treatment centers, group homes, and other county agencies.
College students may be supervising youth interested in the theatre arts as a potential career. All college students will be a positive role model and leader within their field of interest.
All college students will be working with youth in hands-on theatre art related activities to their best interest. All college students will help develop the creative area of interest in each youth for positive personal growth.

Major or Minor in the Theater Arts

Educating youth on the basics of theater arts
Teaching team work and leadership skills through theater related activities
Focusing on individual creative interests in the theater arts field
Helping youth have a better understanding for the theater arts
Focusing on youth related issues in society and expressing them through creating theater/drama activities
Recreation, Parks & Leisure Services Department with Project G.E.M.
College students that have a major or minor in this field of interest may offer services through field experience, internship, service learning, or volunteering in creative environment related activities.
College students would be offering an innovative approach in recreational & environmental education to youth facilities such as Alternative schools, day treatment centers, group homes, and other county agencies.
College students assisting and teaching youth various outdoor activities offered through Project G.E.M. All college students will be a positive role model and leader within their field of interest.
All college students will be working with youth on environmental projects and low competitive recreational activities. All college students will help with the planning, preparation and implementation of the outdoor activities. All college students will help develop the creative area of interest in each youth for positive personal growth.
Qualifications are recommended but not restricted to the following areas:
Major or Minor in Recreation, Parks and Leisure Services
Emphasis in an environmental or outdoor program, club or organization
Youth and outdoor related activities
Helping and assisting youth develop the following areas of learning:
Creative self-expression and respect for nature and the environment
Basic camping and outdoor survival skills
Team supervision with pool and dart youth leagues
Possible career focus and direction
Supervision with local canoe trips and outdoor activities
Capturing nature and outdoor beauty through a camera
