Duties and Responsibilities
•Board members must understand the organization's mission and work together, with committee chairs and staff, to ensure the mission is fulfilled.
•Board members must attend meetings which are held once a month excluding July and December.
•Board members have a responsibility to assure that the organization remains financially sound.
•Board members shall prepare for each board meeting by reading all materials sent prior to the meeting. Members are expected to take an active role in discussions during the board meeting.
•If board members cannot attend a meeting, they are to contact the Chair and or Director by phone and or e-mail prior to the scheduled date of the meeting.
•Board members will be expected to contribute their time and expertise for support and ideas to the program’s mission and vision.
•Board members are not obligated to in-kind contributions but if asked, to volunteer time for program activities if available.
•Confidentiality for board members includes signing the Code of Confidentiality form and submitting it to the Director, and Board members are not to discuss financial matters or comments outside the meetings. Airing dissension also creates distrust and additional conflict among board members and strains fragile interpersonal relationships.
•When confronted with potential conflicts, board members should identify the conflict and remove themselves from the discussion and any vote on the matter.
•Board members must have the willingness to work cooperatively with other board members and the Director.
•Board members are to enhance the public image of the organization.
