Wade and April's Folk Tales

Wade and April are a couple of folk music enthusiasts living in central Illinois. They certainly don't claim to be experts about the subject so don't reference this page on any school projects! They just enjoy listening to and playing folk music and they are always ready to learn more about it. April plays (and transcribes music for) the mountain dulcimer and Wade and April are both learning to play the guitar. April had a dulcimer made for her by Bob Getz in 1985. She specified to him that she wanted a dulcimer with as little "tinny" sound as possible and Mr. Getz delivered making her a custom four string dulcimer with a rich and clear tone quality. Most of the music she has transcribed has been from the Renaissance era which the dulcimer's range lends itself particularly to. Wade plays a Johnson acoustic guitar April bought him for his birthday in June, 2001.
April got herself a guitar in the summer of 2002 and they are learning how to play them together now. Wade and April like a variety of music, but they especially enjoy singer-songwriters commonly associated with modern "folk" music. They are particularly fond of the music of Bob Dylan, Greg Brown, Lucinda Williams, Suzanne Vega, Leonard Cohen, and Tom Waits. They attend folk music festivals when they can (in 2002 making it to both Falcon Ridge and Newport) and enjoy them a great deal. Playing, listening, and learning about folk music is a hobby that both Wade and April love and this web site is Wade's way of combining that hobby with his enjoyment of computer work and his desire to figure out how to make web pages. We hope, if you like this sort of music, you will find something of interest here.
In our other lives April is a religion professor at Illinois Wesleyan University and Wade is the domestic violence staff attorney at Land of Lincoln Legal Assistance Foundation, Inc. If you have any suggestions concerning our site here, please feel free to drop us a line!
