One of the acts that we looked forward to at the 2002 Falcon Ridge Folk Festival was a duo that we hadn't heard live yet, but had heard a lot about: Dave Carter and Tracy Grammer. Tragically, Mr. Carter passed away on July 19, 2002. He was only 49 years old. The folk music world lost a talented, prolific songwriter in Carter. His family and friends lost much more than that. Tracy lost a partner and more in Carter, but bravely managed continue her music career and she now performs the songs of Dave Carter around the country keeping his legacy alive. (There are other artists who also sing Dave Carter songs, of course, but Tracy is the most important keeper of the flame.)
We got to see Tracy Grammer perform at the Iowa Arts Festival in 2003 (where the pictures on this page were taken). She put on a lovely show playing guitar and fiddle and singing Dave's magical songs. She signed our copy of her and Dave's most recently released album "Drum Hat Buddha" and was very pleasant. That album, by the way, is wonderful and if you don't have it seek it out - if you like this musical genre at all you will love it. You can find it easily at all fine record stores, the Dave Carter and Tracy Grammer website, and Amazon.com.
