Born Robert Allen Zimmerman, Bob Dylan is probably the most influencial singer-songwriter in modern folk and rock music. Wade picked up the Dylan bug in the late 80s when he discovered a 5 record set of Dylan songs left to him by his late big-brother Danny Greiner. He subsequently became a bit of a Bob Dylan Fanatic himself. He saw his first Dylan show in 1992 and he introduced April to the Dylan concert going scene in the summer of 2000 in St. Louis.
Bob Dylan's newest album of original music "Love and Theft" was released in September of 2001 to widespread critical acclaim. It was released on Columbia records and won the 2001 Grammy Award for best "Contemporary Folk Album" of the Year. It can be ordered on Amazon.com and is highly recommended. Wade and April last saw Dylan live at the 2002 Newport Festival where they took the picture above. Unfortunately the photo was taken in bad light and from far away so the above rendition is about as good as we could do (Dylan doesn't allow photographers to come close to the stage for better pictures). Dylan's most recent release was "The Bootleg Series Volume 5: Live 1975 The Rolling Thunder Revue." It is also highly recommended.
In 2003 Dylan released a new song on the Soundtrack to the movie "God and Generals" called "Cross the Green Mountain." The movie didn't do very well at the box office (or with critics) but the song is classic Dylan. (Actually, the other vocal song on the album by Mary Fahr is good too.) On January 22, 2003, his new movie "Masked and Anonymous" (starring Dylan and rumoured to have been written by him under a pseudonym) was premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. It was directed by Larry Charles (of "Seinfeld" fame) and stars Dylan (of course), Angela Bassett, Penelope Cruz, John Goodman, Jeff Bridges, and a host of others. It is making national rounds at art house theaters in the summer of 2003. The Soundtrack to the movie has been released and included cover versions of several of Dylan's songs and four Dylan performances not elsewhere available. Finally, Chronicles the first volume of Dylan's autobiography was set to be published this year, but has apparently been indefinately delayed.
