About Wade and April

Our trip to the 2002 Fox Valley Folk Music and Storytelling Festival on Island Park in Geneva, Illinois.

April enjoys the Fox Valley Festival

Wade and April attended the Fox Valley Folk Music and Storytelling Festival on Island Park in Geneva, Illinois in the fall of 2002.  It is a nice location for the weekend concert and the 2002 festival had a beautiful couple of days for the show.

The audience at the main stage

In fact it was so sunny that in the space in front of the main stage folk gathered in three places - the space right in front of the stage (the die-hards), folk under the tent to the left fo the stage (like April above), and far from the stage under the shade of trees (left).  It was a very relaxing atmosphere.

Cooper, Nelson, & Early at the main stage

Cooper, Nelson, & Early are a group devoted to singing traditional folk songs.  Their set included well-played traditional ballads and story songs.  They had a guest performing with them here (I don't remember his name - he is the person to the far right) who was also good, but sounded a bit more modern.

Mark Dvorak performs

Mark Dvorak played a nice set accompanying himself on both the guitar (left) and later on the banjo.

Ellie & Leela Grace at the main stage

Ellie & Leela Grace (sisters in a very musical family) were one of our favorite acts of the day.  Multi-instrumentalists playing guitar, banjo, and fiddle, they played traditional songs, their own compositions and even threw in some folk dancing demonstrations.  A very entertaining set!

Songwriting Summit

Workshops were held in a couple of tents at the festival grounds.  This is the third workshop tent when it was hosting the "Songwriting Summit" featuring Cosy Sheridan, Tom Dundee, and The Cantrells.

The Cantrells perform with Tom Dundee listening in

The Cantrells (a husband and wife team) were among the songwriters performing at the "songwriting summit" workshop on Saturday.  Tom Dundee (another good singer-songwriter pictured in the center) listens while Ms. Cantrell sings.

Cosy Sheridan at the Songwriting Summit

Cosy Sheridan was a crowd favorite at the main stage and performs here at the Songwriting Summit with Tom Dundee and The Cantrells.
