Venus Envy -- 2007 Smarts, humor, and captivating visuals are in short supply in the dour art world, but Ellonyia Yenney conveys all three in These Are My High Heels - a pair of brown hiking boots that end in woven baskets - and Strong Girls Don't Come from These, a loose coil basket with doll-sized clothing and beauty supplies trapped in a resin disc. Both of these pieces make fun of stereotypes by eloquently using a stereotypical female medium - weaving - and juxtaposing it with found objects in a postmodern/social/political sensibility.
