Individual Note:   He was the second son of Malcom lll, he succeeded his brother Alexander The fierce in 1124. He married Maud, grand nieceof William the Conqueror. He was also the Earl of
Northumberland and Huntingdon. It was at that time he was called to the Scotland throne.
On the death of Henry l, King of England,he maintained the claim of his daughter Maud against King Stephen and seized Carlisle, but he was defeated at the battle of Northallin 1138.There was a negotiation the following year and Carlisle remained in the possesion of David. He died there in 1153
