The Lower Wisconsin River
Genealogical and Historical Research Center
The Lower Wisconsin River Genealogical and Historical Research Center, LWR for short, is a nonprofit organization whose purposes are to create and foster interests in genealogy, family, and area history; gather and preserve the records and artifacts of our ancestors, founders, and early settlers in our area; and to aid individuals, organizations, and the public in genealogical and area history pursuits.
MEETINGS are held every fourth Saturday of January, March, May, July, September and November at the Century Hall in Wauzeka, Wisconsin. Meetings begin with a social period at 9:00 a.m., with the program and business meeting following at 9:30 a.m. Announcements of meetings are published in local papers and broadcast on local radio stations the week prior to meetings.
MEMBERSHIP is open to anyone interested in genealogy and history and in the promotion of the purposes of the LWR. Membership entitles each member or household to a subscription to the newsletter, surname listing, and use of our new library at the Century Hall. Membership also allows you the right to hold office and vote at meetings, thus helping to make decisions to determine the purposes of the organization.
Our NEWSLETTER, "Looking for Yesterday," is published four times a year and includes - free to members - announcements, queries, and updates along with helpful hints and articles of genealogical and historical interest. Suggestions for subject matter or donated articles will always be considered for publication.
As a member, you are always welcome to join one or more of our many COMMITTEES to help out our cause. The committees at present are: Cemetery Records, Newsletters, Library, Church History, Surname Index, School History, Oral History, Local History, Hospitality, Program, Grants and Donations.
To APPLY FOR MEMBERSHIP in LWR, send your yearly membership dues of $10 per person or household to: LOWER WISCONSIN RIVER GENEALOGICAL & HISTORICAL RESEARCH CENTER, Patricia Wachuta, 60401 Wachuta Rd., Prairie du Chien, WI 53821. (Please include a S.A.S.E. for your reply. Due to the volume of requests, we cannot reply to those that do not include a S.A.S.E.)

As our name indicates, our organization is located along the lower Wisconsin River.

Preserving old cemeteries and recording their history is one of LWR's functions. This one, located along the banks of the lower Wisconsin River, is the Boydtown Cemetery in Marrieta Township.
