Club History
Founded in June of 1997 by six people with various
levels of fencing knowledge, the Des Moines Fencing Club was soon joined
by other experienced fencers and many enthusiastic students. In 1999,
the DMFC achieved Iowa non-profit organization status.
Members of the DMFC participate in local and out-of-state tournaments,
as well as perform
demonstrations in the Des Moines metro area for
schools, community groups, and other organizations that want to learn
more about the sport of fencing. These are always performed by
volunteers who donate their time to spread the word about the sport of
fencing, sometimes even taking vacation time from their jobs to do so.
The guiding principle of the club
has always been that we learn from each other and teach each other
whatever we can.
The public is always welcome to come and observe and participate in DMFC
practices!
