Petrella Banjos - Made in America!
![]() Building Banjos: fun and perfectionism
In the 20 years since he has become an accomplished luthier, Dan has built hundreds of banjos – all of them one-of-a-kind, distinctive instruments – for himself and fellow performers. Dan’s range has no limits – he builds traditional styles as well as his own line of lighter weight banjos designed to have the rich tones of a heavier instrument, but with easier handling for several-hour performances. His traditional banjos use many of the tried and true tone rims of older, pre-war models similar to those used by Gibson, Vega Vox and Bacon and Day. He does his own carving and inlay work using the finest quality pearl, abalone and semi-precious stones. Each custom banjo has a unique artistic design as well as the tonal quality that satisfies the demanding ear of a seasoned musician. Dan specializes in three types of banjos: tenor, plectrum and 5-string. Dan personally selects his neck and pot wood, such as maple, black walnut and mahagony, and creates the entire instrument using the highest-quality parts, assembled with the needs of the musician in mind. |
