Herbert Olin Evans, of near Westminster, Texas, married Phyllis Pearl Bishop, of Fort Monroe, Virginia, on 27 June 1943, in York, South Carolina.  They met when Phyllis' father, Luther Wirt Bishop, took Herbhome with him on medical leave.  I'm not sure why my grandfather was in the hospital, but my father was there recovering from injuries he suffered when he bailed out of a crippled airplane.

I am told that my father was quite smitten by my mother, and their courtship was short.
