Welcome to my Vietnam Experience Web site.

My name is Herb Evans, and this is a collection of the photographs I took during my tour with Company B, 46th Engineer Battalion (Construction) at Long Binh, Vietnam. (I often refer to this as my "year-long, all-expenses-paid visit to tropical southeast Asia.")

My tour ran from February 1967 to February 1968. I flew into the U.S. Air Force base at Bien Hoa, processed through the 90th Replacement Battalion, and was assigned to the 46th Engineers. Initially, I served as a mechanic in the company motor pool. Later I was assigned to operate the company's two M49C fuel tankers.

I would appreciate hearing from you, especially if you served with B Company when I was there. My e-mail address is dilbert3703 (at sign) mchsi.com.

The most important pictures I have are of the people I served with. I have included all of the people pictures I have, and I have attached names (full or partial) to the faces when possible. I've always had a bad memory for names, but several names have stuck with me over the last 40 plus years: Raymond Sell, Gale L. Bloom, Jess Chamberlain, George Black, Sgt. Reed, Smallwood, Butler, Fielder, and The Duck.

I was never much of a photographer, either. But, in my defense, I have to say all of these images were scanned from 40+ year-old negatives that were processed in Vietnam back in the day.

There are other web sites dedicated to the 46th Engineer Battalion (Construction), and I encourage you to seek them out. One such web site is the 46th Engineer Battalion Unofficial Web Site, maintained by Gary Sigafoo. I encourage you to visit Gary's page and add your name to the membership roster.
