Award ceremony. Capt. Andrews receives medal. Vietnam 1967.

Here's the award ceremony I mentioned earlier. Our company commander (might be William R. Andrews, Jr.) is getting a medal for something. I think it was a Bronze Star.  As I mentioned earlier, I don't remember his name, but I think he was a West Point grad.

B Company 1st Sgt. Called The Duck. Vietnam 1967.

I'm embarrassed to say we did not like our company first sergeant. We called him "The Duck" because of the way he quacked orders. And, guys would make quacking sounds when they saw him coming.

One day, someone bought a live duck at the market and tied it to the commo line running along the ground between the HQ tent and the motor pool. The duck did his part, quacking loudly. This photo was taken just before a company formation. During the formation, The Duck (the human one), ordered that someone remove the duck. I don't think The Duck thought it was very funny.

I don't think The Duck wanted to be there. I heard that he had retired but was called back to serve a tour in Vietnam. He didn't serve as our first sergeant very long. One day he was just gone. I remember seeing him some time later in one of the battalion areas.

The tent in the top, left of the photo belonged to my platoon, the motor pool platoon. My bunk was the first one on the right as you entered.

Platoon leader and platoon sgt eating melon. Vietnam 1967.

This is one of my favorite photographs. Squatting from left to right: Our platoon leader, a warrant officer. I'm sorry I don't remember his name. And, SSG Stege, our platoon sergeant.  In the door, above, from left to right: Butler and Gale L. Bloom.

FPC Betts lands in the beer cooler. Vietnam 1967.

This is a fellow named Betts. If memory serves, this was taken at a company party. Alcohol was involved.
