Grass Roots Tech Radio Show

Tech Talk is a weekly radio show provided free of charge and distributed on the world wide web. Since their first episode on 3/18/05 (an episode about Bit Torrent) fourteen more episodes have followed. They have covered subjects from Spyware and Adware, to 'The Scene'. While it is obvious the quality production is not professional, its a show anyone with a strong inner geek, will be able to enjoy.

The team makes the episodes downloaded able from their server in the popular MP3 format. Digitaltopia finds it a little surprising that the crew has not taken advantage of Bit Torrent to distribute their work, however they have recently began using the Edonkey network for distribution.

If an effort to help these guys out and promote what we feel is a pretty good show, Digitaltopia offers you the shows so far via ED2K:// links.

Episode 01 - Bittorrent - In the first episode of the show the guys talk about what is probably the most popular, hottest buzz world in computer culture right now. Bit Torrent Bram's problem child has the potential to distribute a large file to many people in a short period of time. Groups like the MPAA and RIAA do not like the technology because it works to distribute copyrighted material just as well as it works for the newest Linux distro.

Episode 02 - Encryption -The guys cover the ins and outs of encryption in their typical zany fashion. All of you with the unsecured wireless networks out there should really listen in on this episode.

Episode 03 - Future Versions of Windows -Windows XP will not be the most current Microsoft O.S. Forever. Windows Vista (formerly Windows Longhorn) will be out before we know it. Tech Talk takes a look at the next generation of Windows, aswell as looking into the future and speculating about what windows versions of the future might hold.

Episode 04 - Linux with special guest Eric -Take the penguin plunge along with the Tech Talk staff. If you have heard of Linux but have yet to sample the free stable operating system check this episode out. If your a hard core Linux geek, there is something here for you to.

Episode 05 - IRC -Internet Chat Relay. Like it, Love it, Hate it. Its been around for a long time and can be a very valuable resource. In any case it is not going anywhere any time soon. IRC is here to stay.

Behind the Scenes at Tech Talk – A look at what goes on behind the scenes at Tech Talk.

Episode 07 - Things to do with an old computer - The guys offer some great suggestions of what you can do with that old PC sitting in your closet.

Episode 08 - Open Source -There is a whole world behind closed source proprietary software. Tech Talk looks at some of the more popular open source software and the scene as a whole.

Episode 09 - The Scene – Most the files on the Internet come from a place called The Scene. An underground elite circle of people who go by group names like Centropy, or LOL. The guys explore the mystery in this episode.

Episode 10 - Programming – The guys explore the world of computer programming in this episode.

Episode 11 - Our Favorite Programs – The Tech Talk staff explore and talk about some of their favorite programs.

Episode 12 - Wireless Security – Secure your wireless network, secure your wireless network, secure your wireless network...

Episode 13 - Spyware and Viruses - Spyware and Viruses are a never ending problem online. The guys look into the issues surrounding them in this episode.

Episode 14 - No Topic -No topic for this episode. Just sit back and listen to the staff's mad rambling.

Episode 15 - Newsgroups -We're finally back with our first show in quite some time. We cover about a dozen news stories, some of which are funnier than others. Newsgroups are the topic of the day, and somehow we are quite informative except for TK since he was sleeping through most of the topic discussion...Anyways, we came back with a bang, so check it out

Episode 16 - How to troubleshoot a slow computer -The fury continues with some very amusing news stories, from the insane to the downright stupid. We move on the a topic that just about everybody can use at some point in their lives: how to troubleshoot a slow computer. Even we have our moments...

Episode 17 - Pirating -We cover some really great news stories somehow. I still don't know how we manage to find almost a dozen new stories every single day for the past 2 days, but we do it for you guys. The topic was pirating, especially the practical and moral aspects of it as well as some ranting tangents. All in all, this turned out to be a pretty good show.

Episode 18 - Our Favorite Websites - This show was complete chaos. Neither TK nor Dan were available to do a show anytime between about 7 AM and 10 PM and you guys know as well as we do that there is no way in hell we're waking up before 7 AM to do a show, so we did this show right after everybody got home from the last one. Anyways, we had TK coming to us via Skype, Dan coming to us via a regular old phone, and me live as always. We hacked together some decent news stories in about 30 minutes. Somehow new shit that surfaced between the time we ended our last show and the time we began this show.

Episode 19 - Console Piracy - I'm not really sure what was so funny, but one news story absolutely cracked us up. You'll find out what I'm talking about when you listen in. This is one of our more amusing shows without a doubt, with the news topping even our best news from past shows. The topic is console piracy and we, like with all other pirating topics, have a field day. A great show to end the fury, check it out.

Episode 20 - Computer and Internet Culture - Funny can't really begin to describe this show. I'm not sure if it will seem amusing to you, but I sure as hell know we were laughing our asses off for most of the show. Some great news leads to interesting discussions, and the topic for the show was computer and Internet culture. Basically we wanted a nice, easy topic to transition out of that fury...

Episode 21 - Geek Wishlist - This show wasn't really our best, and it turned out that way for several reasons. Both guests we had planned to be on the show couldn't make it for various reasons, and Dan was, uh, confined to his home for undisclosed reasons, so he ended up on the phone. Anyways, we had lots of news from wacky to awesome, and the topic was geek wishlist. It's kind of hard to explain this bullshit topic here, so just listen!

Episode 22 - Live Linux CDs - Boatloads of news for this show made the first half of the show 2 minutes longer than normal. Make sure to check out the news archive if you want to read about the crazy stories we covered. The topic for the show was Live Linux CDs, especially Knoppix, Whax, Auditor. I spend forever on Whax, covering it like a fat kid on a candy bar. A pretty good show overall

Episode 23 - Password and hash cracking - This was a damn good show, especially for losers like us. We make fun of the most serious news like we normally do, and I managed to pick some kickass headlines. The topic was password and hash cracking... you know...if you forget your password and such. Ha! I think not...

There are also a few extra things offered.

We recommend you at least check out one of two of the episodes you find of interest. Its an addictive show, and its nice to have sources of Tech News outside of the main media.
