Bad News Bears

The Chicago Bears saw their season slip away at an away game in Minnesota in only the third week of last season. Quarterback Rex Grossman suffered a torn ligament in his knee. With no viable backup the season was effectively a wash. Jonathan Quinn, Craig Krenzel, and Chad Hutchinson lead Chicago to a dismal 5-11 record. They had more fumbles then touchdowns, and where last in the NFL in scoring and yards scored. All while allowing a team record 66 sacks.

Quarterback has been a major problem for Chicago for quite a few years now. Nine different men have taken the helm since 2000. This year the Bears where very hopeful things would finally turn around for them. Grossman has showed loads of potential, when healthy. The team also upgraded its offense in the off season by signing free agent wide out Muhsin Muhammad. Chicago also tried to use the draft to upgrade their running game. They spent a first round draft pick on Cedric Benson. The young running back and the team have yet to come to a contract agreement however.

With Grossman not expected to be back any sooner then three or four months. This season Quarterback duties will fall on Hutchinson, or rookie Kyle Orton. Chicago also has Kurt Kittner and Ryan Dinwiddie signed at the QB position. Only time will tell but things are not looking great for Chicago, so far.
