Political Turmoil Precedes Gaza Pullout

In a conflict that makes the Bears v. Packers rivalry look like a love fest, Israel and the Palestine population have been add odds for a very long time. However in recent years there have been some signs of hope. With the death of Yasser Arafat, a new hope for peace appeared to be born in the region.

A major stepping stone for this is Israels pullout of Gaza. Today during a cabinet meeting Benjamin Netanyahu surprised colleges by resigning in protest to the pullout plan. Netanyahu has a lot of support in the right wing Likud party.

Despite the resignation the vote went 17-5 in favor of removing the first three Israel settlements from the Gaza region. Recently a radical Jewish terrorist shot and killed four Israeli Arabs. He was then attacked and killed by and angery Arab mob. Tensions remain high on both sides, and like always the peace process is only one bombing or other form of terrorist attack, away from being setback. My hopes and prayers are with everyone in this region who strives for peace. I can only hope that cooler, more moderate personalities may finally be winning out in this seemingly endless conflict.
