Carputer Install
I
had this same setup in my previous car, 1998 3000GT SL, and realized I
could take the installation to a different level in the Evolution.
Actually integrating the computer into the vehicles ECU. Very cool and
introduces a wide range of possibilities for the installation. I can
now access the ECU using EVOFlash, change parameters and reflash the
ROM. I can also use EVOScan to access all of the information that the
ECU uses to datalog and show important information on the screen ...
such as TPS, Knock sum, and RPM with a shiftlight. There are many more
parameters accessable through the ECU.
This is all on top of the possibilities involved in just having a PC in the car!
On to the system...

Running Mediaengine and Evoscan:
(first is w/ old switch panel and old Mediaengine skin)

Current Capabilities:
Vehicle is currently running Windows XP Pro
Currently running Mediaengine. Mediaengine is taking care of the
following functions for me at the moment: MP3s, DVD and Movies (mpeg
avi etc etc)
Project64, which is a Nintendo64 emulator.
Evoscan for datalogging and the ability to show all the information the ECU uses on a gauge on the screen.
ECUflash for the ability to change any engine data parameters. For instance AFR, Launch Control, RPM Limiter, governor etc etc
The computer can do everything the computer your sitting at right now
can do (basically) except surf the internet...for the moment.
In Work:
These are the things that I have planned for the CarPC setup:
Cellular internet access
USB GPS w/ Microsoft Streets and Trips
Innovate LC-1 wideband
Mini wireless keyboard w/ built in mouse
Custom fiberglass enclosure for the PC. This should shave some weight and add a little style.
This is certainly a work in progress with an extreme amount of possibilities.
