Kubicki Factor Bass
EBay Auction ends October 18, 2004

This is a wonderful sounding bass, designed by
Phil Kubicki and crafted in the Fender Custom Shop. It has been played very
little in the 12-plus years that I have owned it, not because I prefer another
bass (I don't), but because I primarily am a guitar player. It comes with the
original case and includes the owners manual. The neck is straight, with no dips
or dead spots. The light spot seen on the fingerboard in the above image is a
reflection. Since I'm not a bass player, I will flesh out the details with
others' comments posted at Harmony Central

If you like to "D" tune your "E" string almost
instantaneously, without changing string tension and not having to transpose,
then the Ex Factor is your only choice. This bass is a revolution and I don't
say that lightly. With 34 laminations on the neck, I find myself taking the bass
out from the night before and it's still in tune! Everything on this bass is
custom designed by Philip Kubicki who was one of the original fender guitar
luthiers. Three passive pickups and two actives also allow for any sound you may
want. This is one of the best basses I have every played in the studio or on the
road. Check one out if you can get a hold of one.

This bass is the perfect bass for studio or the road. It's a workhorse that is
made to last but gives the most subtle musician control over sound and tone. I
use a Peavey MegaBass with it, 2x10 and an 18". But I have played it in
almost every combination of amp and even directly into a PA system. I can punch
up +25 DBs on this bass whenever I want. Again full control.
Action, Fit, & Finish: 9
The bass has only needed a tune up after a good ten years of hard playing - I
can't believe it either, but it was true. I admit that I am not the most crazy
stickler for my bass being perfectly setup. In this case it serves me well.
Nothing on the bass has ever come loose or broke. Although, I am noticing a
buzzing sound of one of my Kubicki's that I can't find.
Reliability/Durability: 10
It does it all - live on the road and then into the studio! 10 year playing the
hell out of it and nothing has happened to it.
Customer Support: 10
Phil is great and personally takes his business seriously. He is accessible and
friendly. He also offers a complete setup and refinishing at a nominal cost - He
even offered to re silk screen the logo back on after I painted my bass.
