"I've been an avid Cyd Charisse fan ever since I saw "Meet Me in Las Vegas" when I was in 8th grade. My cousin babysat for a young family and I called the mother Cyd because she looked like Cyd Charisse. I saw the movie at least seven times. I was wild about the plot and most especially the dancing. I rushed out to get the 45 of Sammy Davis Jr. doing "Frankie and Johnny" because of the dance. I saw the original "That's Entertainment" last week on a VCR. I think it's a mortal sin that to my knowledge Cyd has never had a section in all those movies. I realize that Esther Williams numbers were spectacular because they were so glitsy, but Cyd's talent would have been more spectacular. I had my favorite actors and actresses especially up through high school, but Cyd was THE FAVORITE."

"I think Cyd Charisse is the sexiest woman of the 20th century, besides being
the most beautiful actress and greatest female dancer. Absolute GODDESS!."
    Robert

  • "Cyd Charisse is way before my time (I'm only 16) but her beauty is timeless. She could stop the world with her smile, and for me she has. She's the most beautiful woman ever. I am thinking about getting plastic surgery to look like her but that would be creepy. Point is though, Cyd can never die no matter how long its been, not in my heart at least." Obviously

"I'm so very thrilled that you are still part of my life and the lives of so many who love you. I am a huge fan of yours and have been for many decades. I'd watch you dance in your films and I'd be in awe. You see I had always wanted to be a dancer but grew too tall (5'9"), had feet too big and legs bowed. But I got to live my dreams through your dancing. I love you Cyd Charisse and always will."
    Elena - La Mesa, CA

"No other performer combined her combination of acting talent, beauty and dance ability. Add to this the greatest body on any woman ever, and you have a unique human, dare I say, an historical personality who remains unappreciated."
    Douglas Nassif - Bismarck, ND

"Cyd was always one of my favorites. She was not only beautiful and talented, but she had immense sex appeal. As a young man I would dream that she would become available and I would marry her. I still do. Her beauty is timeless. The last time I saw her in the movies was in 1978's "Warlords of Atlantis." Still radiantly beautiful. Thanks Cyd, for all the dreams and memories."

"I've been a movie fan for more than 40 years, and Cyd Charisse is the sexiest woman on the silver screen. She would be doing her dance numbers with either Kelly, Astaire, or Dailey. Forget about those guys. You could not keep your eyes off her. As the years passed by Cyd Charisse was getting better with age. Believe me when I tell you, there were dancers and then there was Cyd Charisse. There were many gorgeous women in movies but Cyd Charisse was talented, beautiful, and classy. She is Cyd Charisse - the sexiest woman in film history."
    Daniel Perez

"My favorite actress as a teenager, and I always think about her now, because there is no one like her - beautiful and talented with the grace of a dancing goddess, and I used to go to the movies just because she was the actress."

"Whenever I admire Cyd Charisse in her movies, I never think of her as an actress of good old Hollywood. She always looks so fresh and young that she surpasses many 'hot babes' of the present-day cinema. Her legs are really 'talking,' her ballets are poetic and spritely at the same time. She was a great actress too, and I think she could prove it even nowadays. I've always admired her grace, her enthusiasm and her amicability; I mean she was wonderful but she never boasted of herself as her younger and often less talented colleagues did or do. I always thought of her as someone who would come by and tell you: 'Let's have a hot dog together!' Sharon Stone, Demi Moore, and Liz Hurley's legs are wonderful, but as I was saying before, they don't 'talk'!!"

"Like so many others, I was and still am a fan of Cyd. From Singin' In The Rain to Brigadoon to Silk Stockings, she exudes class and a touch of sex appeal. I didn't know how much though until I saw her in a movie called The Silencers with Dean Martin and Stella Stevens where she played a stripper/spy named Sarita. In the opening title sequence of the film, after watching two other women, a brunette in a blue dress and a blonde in a white dress doing their individual stripteases, on comes Cyd singing the film's title song, even though she didn't show as much as the other two, she left you wanting to see more of her. I didn't even know how much more until I saw this web site's gallery and there was a publicity still of Cyd showing off more than just a little leg from the opening title scene. I hope that when The Silencers comes to DVD they show that photo and any other behind-the-scenes footage of her in action. God bless this one-of-a kind living legend."

"Oh man. I'm 36 years old. My dad brought me up on the MGM musicals. I can easily listen to Black Sabbath blaring out "Fairies Wear Boots" or preferably toss in a copy of Summer Stock on VHS. Anyways. Cyd has always been a pleasure. Why? I melt when I look at her or hear her saying in that Scottish accent from Brigadoon, "Aye" :o) OH!.....Well I own one autograph that my brother gave me of Willie Mays and I'm a Huge Giants fan living in San Jose and I'd be willing to trade it for hers. To me she is the Best of Hollywood. To me. Is that goofy enough? Still I .....well.......ahh."

"Hey, I am a dancer and a huge musical fan. I hope to be on Broadway one day and my number one college to get accepted to is NYU. I have been a Cyd fan since I was six years old and I now have seventeen of her movies. She is a constant inspiration and I hope to one day be able to dance like her. Thank you for a web site that gives others the opportunity to witness a small portion of her amazing talent. I am such a fan that my screen name is cydancer."

"It is nice to see an appreciation page for the stunning Cyd Charisse. Of course everyone knows her classic films, but there are many more gems to be found in her movie career and some of my favorites were when she played the 'not so nice girl'. I love her in Two Weeks in Another Town taunting Kirk Douglas to destruction because he is obsessed by her. The wild drunken car ride scene has to be seen to be believed. I love Cyd in Party Girl and The Silencers. She has updated her look for this campy spy spoof. Maroc 7 is another spy spoof which is glamourous and trashy, and great fun. Cyd holds her own against the fashion models as only she can.
"Today I received from an ebay auction a glorious photo of Cyd and Tony Martin from a TV special The Hollywood Palace, 1964. This would have to be my favorite shot of Cyd, she has one arm bent and posed upward with her hand under her chin, she is in a skin-tight glittering sheath of a dress that could only say 'highly explosive' on the label.
"Recently Cyd came to Australia as a guest for a cable TV channel Foxtell appearance at an anniversary for our famous Mr Movies, Bill Collins. On his TV show h e later screened her best movies preceded by commentary from Cyd. These interviews only prove Miss Charisse is still an exceptionally beautiful woman and extremely gracious lady. Miss Charisse, thank-you for being you."
Robert Rechter - South Yarra, Australia

"Cyd Charisse is amazing. She has grace and great talent. I am thirteen. The first movie I saw with her in it was Silk Stockings and it is still in my top 5 musicals! In my whole lifetime I have seen 50 musicals! It may not seem like alot but to me its a great accomplishment! Thank you for having this wonderful page dedicated to the glorious Cyd Charisse."

"Like so many others who express their fondness for Cyd and her craft, I first saw her as an eight year old watching that best of all musicals Singin' In The Rain. Although this was way back in the early fifties and I was a young kid, I remember being struck - almost mesmerized - by her dark haired ,dark eyed beauty. I became aware of woman as having a profound effect on the male half of the species, probably due in no small part to Cyd's sinuous (okay, sexy!) dancing. Not only did I come to appreciate that small fact but I've been hooked on her ever since!"

"I'm 21 years old and a dancer. I first fell in love with Cyd Charisse when I was around the age of 13 when I saw her in Singin' in the Rain dancing the amazing duet with Gene Kelly. From there on she became a major inspiration to me and my dancing. Her movies are wonderful, her dancing dynamite, and her natural beauty breathtaking. Ms. Charisse is a true icon of the glorious MGM musicals and what beauty and grace should be. I greatly appreciate her contribution to the wonderful world of dance and for giving me such a great role model to aspire to be like. She is the BEST!"

"I discovered Cyd Charisse by accident. I first heard of her in a Fred Astaire tribute in That's Entertainment. She was the last one in the sequence to "partner" with him (in The Band Wagon's "Dancing In The Dark"), and the sequence just plain stood apart from the rest of the clips. It was the epitome of grace, elegance, and style on film. It was also the first time I saw Astaire with a female who was not in an evening gown and sequins; she proved herself to be a dancer who could hold her own. I began to search for other Charisse films, and was very happy over the next fifteen years to see On an Island with You, The Unfinished Dance, Brigadoon, Deep In My Heart, Til the Clouds Roll By, and Silk Stockings. In each case, I was treated to the image of a exotically beautiful, black-haired woman who first appears fairly shy and introverted - but the moment she begins to dance the modesty is over!! I wrote her a letter of appreciation, and to my surprise she wrote me back, thanking me for my kindness. I'm glad to know she is still with us, as sharp and as beautiful as ever."

"...The following story has become quite the inside joke between my mom, sister and me.
"I recently turned 16, and though I'm not quite as obsessed with musicals as I used to be, I still am an avid and dedicated fan of musical film. What I am getting at is that there was a period of about a year where I tortured my poor family with musicals, musicals, musicals. Nothing else...so, a few years back my grandparents invited me to come up and spend the weekend with them. Of course, I couldn't leave my movies behind, so I decided that the one that I simply could not part with was definitely the one and only Singin' in the Rain.
"Of course, my Grandparents, being pure products of the fifties did not mind my choice, but, before I can continue, I must also include that my Grandma thinks that she is the ultimate authority on musicals, being that she was Annie in her high school's production of Annie Get Your Gun. Well, we finished watching Singin' in the Rain and she had nothing but praise for Gene, Debbie, Donald, and especially Cyd - but I'm not finished yet...
"Well, later on that night my Grandpa, Grandma, and I went to TCBY to get some frozen yogurt, where my Grandpa casually commented on how he thought Cyd Charisse was an exceptionally sexy dancer. My Grandpa really didn't mean anything by it; he was just the type who would say something if somebody looked nice, not really thinking my Grandma gave it a second thought. Well, she at least pretended not to, anyways.
"Later on in the weekend we watched it gain, and my Grandma's attitude toward Cyd had changed noticably....nothing too major though. Only, sometime in between Friday night and Sunday afternoon my Grandma noticed that Cyd Charisse wasn't a very good actress and that she was terribly knock-kneed. I guess Cyd was the one gal who could make my grandma jealous! Now, every time my Mom and I watch a Cyd flick we always pity that 'poor, knock-kneed girl'!"

"The movie was The Unfinished Dance. I was just a little girl, but I realized then that I had seen the most beautiful woman on earth. These many years later, and I have not changed my opinion. She is the essence of beauty, talent, class and style."
    Doreen Kent - Chesapeake, VA

"My tribute is to Cyd Charisse, the classiest lady in the movies. I could listen to that beautiful diction and gaze at that beautiful face all day without tiring of it. What a great star!"

"I have been a big fan of Cyd Charisse since the 1950s, and never tire of watching her films. She has a classic beauty and grace which is unsurpassed, and she has given me many, many hours of pleasure to watch her dance. Happy Birthday for the 8th March, Cyd, and I wish you many years of happiness. Best wishes!"

"I became a Cyd Charisse fan back in 1978 when I was 14. I first saw her in the movie Silk Stockings and I saw her dance number with Gene Kelly in Singin' in the Rain. What a great dancer she is! She has the best legs that I've ever seen."

  • v.a.bezerra@usa.net
"I have seen only three of Cyd's films as yet, all from the 50s, always on the small screen, and I am happy to inform you that I felt completely under her spell. (Thanks to the filmography you've compiled, I will start looking after other Cyd titles.) She is always gorgeous, always sexy, always classy. And, come to think of it, she is somehow undeniably "modern." If only some of today's movie "stars" could be a little less futile and obvious, and learn something from Cyd about what it takes to be a real star instead!"
"Is it possible to speak of Cyd without mentioning her legs? I don't think so... It's as if those two wonders of nature were made specifically to charm and bewitch and thrill. And boy, did she know how to use them! -- in more than one way, and always in a classy manner."

"Cyd Charisse is from way before my time as I am only a 25 year old man. I have recently seen her in a few movies and, as might be expected, she caught my eye. I recently saw her in Brigadoon and Singin' In The Rain. I have noticed (in my humble opinion) that women in older movies seems to be so much more beautiful than in today's film fare and Cyd Charisse is no exception. She was stunning! Certainly one of the most exotic and sexy women in Hollywood of all time. She was a "hottie" to use a modern expression! I look forward to seeing many more of her films."
