Sam Davis

Age: 48

Chief of Police, CHPD

Friends: Elliot Mitchell, Andrew Wesley

Wife: Camille Davis

Sam is a devoted family man, and the chief of police for the Cape Heights Police Department. 26 years ago, Sam married the love of his life, Camille. They have encountered the usual prejudices that interracial couples usually face, but for the most part it no longer bothers them. They have three children, Trisha, Aubrey, and Aeryn.

Sam has worked for the Cape Heights Police Department since he graduated from the police academy 26 years ago. He started as a rookie officer walking the beat on the docks, then was a patrol officer, and later was promoted to Detective. He has worked his way to the top, and 5 years ago became the Chief of Police. He is dedicated to the job, and sometimes works very long hours, which has been known to cause a rift in his marriage from time to time. He’s a good cop, with a sharp intellect that allows him to really get into a case and analyze it from all different angles. Sam also has an outgoing personality and offbeat sense of humor, which makes him popular with the detectives who work under him.  He is a perfectionist, however, and demands the best from his team. He often works closely with Rebecca Torres, one of the Assistant District Attorneys, though he frequently finds himself at odds with her superior, DA Michael Kelley.

Sam’s wife Camille is the editor of the local newspaper, and Sam has been known to use that to his favor from time to time, when he believes media coverage- or sometimes the lack of it- will help flesh out evidence or leads in a case. Right now, there is a suspected crime ring in Cape Heights, and the investigation is occupying much of Sam’s time and that of his fellow officers. Sam is concerned that excessive media coverage might hurt this investigation, and has begun to pressure his wife to reign in some of her eager young reporters so that his investigation is not hindered.

Sam’s children are his pride and joy, and he hopes that they may soon provide him with grandchildren. For the most part, he is supportive of daughter Trisha’s singing career, but is realistic about what a tough business it can be to break into, and has tried to explain this to her without sounding as if he doesn’t believe in her talent. He is very proud of Aubrey’s decision to become a doctor, but is becoming increasingly concerned about his inconsistent behavior. He is protective, some might say overprotective, of his youngest daughter Aeryn, and worries that she might be growing up too fast.
