Jack Carter is originally from the Midwest. He had an uneventful childhood, raised by both parents in a middle class home in Missouri. He also has a younger brother and two older sisters. Jack was always interested in education, and excelled in school. He was also a quarterback on his high school football team.

Jack stayed in the Midwest for college, attending a small private school. He majored in history and political science. He taught high school history and coached football for a few years, and returned to graduate school for his Ph.D. so he could pursue teaching options at the university level.

Jack was briefly married to his high school sweetheart, but they grew apart while Jack was in college. She was ready for a family, and Jack was too busy with his history books and trying to maintain his top GPA. Being an old-fashioned guy, Jack still feels bad that his marriage didn’t work out. He regrets how he disappointed his family, particularly his mother, whom he is still very close to. Since his divorce, Jack has been reluctant to get involved in a serious relationship, for fear of failing again.

Two years ago, Jack was offered a position in the History Department at prestigious Coastal Cliffs University. It was an offer he couldn’t refuse, and he relocated to Cape Heights. In addition to his teaching duties, Jack also serves as CCU’s representative and compliance director to the NCAA, working to maintain the integrity of the school’s sports programs.

Jack is popular with his colleagues on the faculty, particularly Claudia Emerson, with whom he has become good friends. Because of his boyish good looks, athletic physique, and dry sense of humor, he has also become quite popular with many young women on the student body who flirt openly with him. Despite rumors to the contrary, which sometimes place him in disfavor with the University’s new Dean, Jack has thus far resisted the temptation, though he can’t deny his attraction to Lori Mitchell. Jack is an excellent cook and wine connoisseur, and hopes to someday find the right person to share his life with. He has recently begun dating Taylor O’Malley.
