Ten members of the Veterans Home in Yountville (and their driver, of course!) arrived at Chesley Meadows field about noon. We were delighted to share our hobby with them. Many of these veterans belong to the "Vets" Electric Model Airplane Club and the Warbird Historical Society at the Yountville Veterans Home, according to Paul Maier (one of the visiting veterans).
Dick Jones, owner of The Pit Stop restaurant in Lakeport and member of the Clearlake Modelers, catered the lunch. They provided hamburgers and hot dogs complete with all the condiments, side dishes and beverages. The food was delicious. If you are ever in the Lakeport area, having lunch at The Pit Stop is a must.
Some members wanted to help the club cover the catering costs. As of November 7, 2008, the club has received $460.00 in donations from:
Dick Benjamin
Jay Carey
Fred Constantine
Jack Farrell
Steve Feuerbacher
Ron Keil
Jim Milligan
Jim Scholz
Joe Shireman
Jack Tatum
Glen Widman
Thanks very much to each member who contributed. Your financial assistance is truly appreciated.
The club trainer was set up with a buddy box, and Doug Skjerseth graciously gave stick time to anyone wanting to get in some flight time.
There were about 70 of us there including our guests. That’s a pretty decent showing for our club. Everyone seemed to enjoy the friendship and flying, as well as the many gorgeous models presented for static display.
The veterans who visited were an interesting and enjoyable group of folks. It was our pleasure to host this event for them.
