About Our Park

and Campground...

Glenwood Lake Park, located on the east edge of Glenwood, Iowa, was

established in 1907.  Over the years the park and lake have been developed into

the beautiful recreational facilities they are today.  The park, with a 6.5 acre lake,

covers about 50 acres.  In 1949, a portion of the park was sold to the Mills County Historical Society and a museum was built to house Indian relics and artifacts from

former residents of Mills County.

In 1979, a 750 seat amphitheater was built near the lake.  It continues to be a venue

for a variety of entertainment for the people in Southwest Iowa.  The lake is surrounded

by a .6 mile paved walkway which provides the opportunity for a leisurely morning or

evening stroll.  The lake itself provides fishing for the community.  It is common to see children sitting on the lake shore trying to catch the bluegills, bass and other fish found

in the lake.  In 1969, the state record carp measuring 44 inches and weighing 50 pounds

was caught in the lake.  That record still stands today.  Fishermen will tell you that

bigger ones have been seen in the lake recently.

For the folks that want more strenuous exercise, several back woods trails traverse

the east side of the park ranging from 1 to 3 miles in length.  In 2009, the Glenwood

Park Board opened a new RV campground featuring twelve RV sites with up-to-date

facilities, supplementing the existing eight site RV camping facility.
