Founded in 1868 with the arrival of
the Chicago,
Rock Island & Pacific Railroad, Dexter, was placed on the gentle rolling
parries of west central Iowa. Named after the famous trotter Dexter, from it’s beginning, it has been a wonderful place to call home, and a community that is both progressive and retains its small town charm. It is proud to wear the honor of being named the “Original One Horse Town” by the New York Times.
Dexter
is located in the far southwest corner of Dallas County, the fastest growing
county in Iowa. It’s city limits is only minutes away from Guthrie, Madison
and Adair Counties and boasts excellent access to I- 80 at exits 97 and 100, as
well as rail service by the Iowa Interstate Railroad.
It’s
