Macey slept well again last night (yes!), but please pray for Julie - she woke up early this morning with an upset stomach and diarrhea. Julie didn't eat or drink anything strange yesterday, so feels it's more likely a flu bug. If it was going to happen, today was a good day, as we were not scheduled to go anywhere, so we broke out the small pharmacy we brought with us and put Mom back to bed.

With Mom down for the count, Macey didn't have much choice but to rely on me for the day. she put up a fuss at first, but eventually she took a bottle from me, let me get her dressed, and we went down to have some real breakfast. Macey particularly likes watermelon, steamed eggs, ham, and banana bread. We were told that the kids were often fed kanji (runny rice mixture - kind of looks like a bowl of snot to me), but none of them seem to have any interest in eating it.

I can see definite changes in the kids this morning as they are starting to get used to their new surroundings and parents. Smiles are more frequent and everyone is more at ease. Parents now have some idea what the kids like (and don't like) to eat. Chapped lips & cheeks and runny noses are clearing up, and sleep schedules are starting to form.

After visiting some of the other families, we came back to check on Mom and snack on some Cheerios:

By the way, Ashlynn, Macey loves the sweater you picked out for her! We spent a lot of time walking the halls and lobby of the hotel. I found out that Macey is very social and loves to be around other people. As much as I hate that Julie is sick, the time alone with Macey was very valuable in building some trust with her.

In case you are curious, this is the view from our hotel room. We are on the 11th of 20 floors. Barges are constantly moving up and down the river. The air is nearly always hazy with pollution from the city. Construction is going on all around us as buildings are rennovated and rebuilt. There is a HUGE amount of investment going on in this city.

I just received an email with this picture - it is our group in front of the Jiangxi Center for Adoption Services (where we did paperwork the other day).

We couldn't have asked to travel with a more wonderful bunch of people, the amount of help, love, and support present in this group is immeasurable!

Tomorrow we receive Macey's passport and fly south to Guangzhou in the afternoon. Hopefully I'll be able to post again tomorrow night.
