The 8th Arrow

That which has gone before...

Background

Legends speak of the Caern of the Sacred Mountains as a potent nexus of Gaia's influence, a place of wisdom and healing, a place of power. Under their totem of the great White Wolf, the Guiding Wolves used this as a base from which the minions of the Wyrm were vanquished, and even Great Banes were banished to eternal slumber.

In recent times, with the coming of the Apocalypse, this has changed. The warriors of Gaia are now few in number; the Wyrm has grown to fill the void. The damage done by Its servants has been extensive.

Some claim that this is to be blamed on the settlers and fortune-seekers from the last century (and their descendants). The Wyrm had finally been beaten, driven out. But the sacrifices needed to accomplish this were tossed aside when the newcomersbrought the old evil back. The Wyrm is a disease -- and the carriers must be destroyed. Only then can the true cleansing begin.

Others believe that the evil has always been here, lurking just below the surface. An equilibrium had been reached, but recent events have disrupted it. The newcomers are not the sole cause, merely one among many. They are more messengers than carriers. The Wyrm has used the changing times to its advantage and caught the garou off guard, daydreaming. It is crafty and must be understood before is can be successfully defeated.

Whatever the cause, the Guiding Wolves are now few in number. Far too few -- less than a score remain. Their enemies are legion, and have constructed caerns of power the likes of which have never been seen before.

And the White Wolf has not been seen in years.
