Tournament Format

The first TWO rounds will actually be a round robin. Players will be broken into groups of 4 (depending on numbers, we may have one group of 6). You will play every one in your group once (or 3 people if in the group of 6). All games during the first round will Bagradas. All games during the second round will Ilipa. If we draw 32 or less, the second round will become an elimination round instead, see below.

The first game of each round robin will be alloted a 15 minute set up time. Each additional game will be allowed 10 minutes for set-up. Each game will be played to a strict 1 hour time limit. When time is called, the current turn for both players can be finished (under a one minute time limit to pick a card). The game will be decided by victory banners captured at that time; ties can occur. Players will need to record the number of victory banners they capture and have captured on record sheets provided by the game.

The players are free to agree who plays which side. If both players want to play the same side, the following bidding procedure will be used. Please note this is a change from both last year and the first year (we'll keep trying until we get a system that works best). Both players will roll all seven dice. The player who rolls the most leader symbols will have the choice to bid first or second; if the number of leader symbols is tied, re-roll until there is not a tie. What you are bidding is the number of complete battle dice re-rolls you will give your opponent so that you can play the desired side. Zero is a valid bid. When a player does not want to raise the bid, the bidding is over and that player takes the other side and is now allowed to cause the bid number of complete battle dice re-rolls at any time during the game. Each complete battle dice re-roll means whoever just rolled the dice must roll all of the dice over again. You can re-roll your own die roll or force your opponent to re-roll either can be on an initial attack or a battle-back. It is only just the dice rolled and all must be re-rolled so you can not wait to see what happens on the elephant re-roll of sword hits to decide to cause a re-roll. You would have to decide just knowing the elephants will get to roll x dice again. You may only use the re-roll option once on each original roll (i.e no re-rolling the re-roll, you just have to live with the results of the re-roll).

The top player in every group will automatically advance to the next round. The top second place players from the groups will fill the spots to make the single elimination 4 or 8 players - 4 will advance if there are 64 or less total participants.

The method for breaking ties between second place players will be as follows:
1. Overall Record
2. Head to Head records
3. Total Victory Banners captured
4. Total Victory Banners Lost
5. Die roll

The elimination round will be a strict ladder (1 plays 8, 2 plays 7). Assignment to a ladder position will be semi-random. All 3-0 winners will be randomly assigned the top positions. Then all other winners will be randomly assigned the next positions. Finally, all advancing second place players will be randomly assigned to the remaining positions.

The elimination rounds will be two game matches against the same opponent. The scenarios will be Trebbia in the round of 8, Gabiene (1st Expansion) in the semi-finals, and Gaugamela (1st Expansion) in the finals.

The criteria for winning your two game match are:
1. Most Victory Banners captured
2. Fewest Victory Banners lost
3. Fewest total blocks lost
4. Most total blocks killed
5. Fewest Generals lost
6. Most Generals killed
7. Fewest mounted blocks lost
8. Most mounted blocks killed
9. Die Roll

Late Arrivals, Long Games and Byes

Group assignments for the Round Robin will be started at 9 am. If you arrive after that time, you may be forced to play in a group with your friends. Once all group assignments are complete, no latecomers will be accepted.

In the single elimination portion, if you need a short break arrange it with your opponent before leaving the tournament area. If no arrangements are made, you will have 5 minutes to appear once a round is started or you will forfeit.

All games will be ended after a set time limit; adjudication rules are given in the tournament format above.
