Acorn Engineering Products
"Shareware" is a computer program that you can download and try for free but
you must pay for the program if you continue to use it.
Acorn Engineering has released many shareware programs over the years and
continues to support them all. Feel free to try them all and register those you
like and want to continue to use. Registration also gets you the latest
version of the program which is not usually released as shareware.
If you would prefer we can also send you a disk with unregistered versions of all our products.
Just send $5 US along with your name and address to:

Designed for DOS 2.1 and above but also runs well under Windows 95/98. May not support long file names.
Designed for Windows 95/98/00/NT/XP
Cutter - CUTTER25.ZIP
- Cut large files down to size - Registration $15
Cutter cuts large files into a specified size or number of smaller
files. This is useful if you are trying to move large files from
one computer to another through floppy disks. It can also be
used on text files to make input files compatible with programs
that are limited by 64K data areas. It has options to stop at the
first End of File, remove duplicates from the end of the file, end
each file at even line boundaries or on page breaks. It can also
automatically adjust the piece size to the space available on each
target floppy disk.
PC-Catalog - PCAT32.ZIP
- Disk/file cataloging system - Registration $19.95-$39.95
PC-Catalog is a disk/file cataloging system that is menu driven,
mouse aware, can use EMS memory and reads all types of disks. It
can read file names and descriptions from inside ARC, ZIP, LZH,
LBR, PAK, ZOO, and self extracting files. You can enter keywords
and descriptions for everything, automatically add BBS
descriptions, view files with any external program, and search for
things in many ways including duplicates. You can customize report
printouts and write to any printer or disk file. It uses EMS memory
or a floppy or hard disk to supplement regular memory allowing tens
of thousands of files to be maintained in a single catalog.
PC-Catalog can now also read and write catalogs in other database
formats such as dBase, DIF, SDF, and ASCII. This means that, if
you already have a file catalog, you can move your data to
PC-Catalog without reentering it all. You can also move your data
to any other program that reads one of these formats.
PC-Catalog runs well under Windows 95/98 but does not support long
file names.
File Cyclic Redundancy Check - FCRC22.ZIP
- Checks file integrity - Registration $15
File Cyclic Redundancy Check is a program which checks the
existence of, size, date, and a "check sum" of every file on a
disk. It then saves a copy of these values. Later, when you run
FCRC again, it will tell you every file that has been added,
modified, or deleted from the disk. This is invaluable
as a virus/trojan check.
QWK COMPressor - QWKCOMP1.ZIP
- Compress multiple QWK mail packets - Registration $15
QWK COMPressor compresses the QWK mail packets that you get from
bulletin boards. It combines all of the messages
from the same conferences and copies new bulletins, etc. to a
single QWK packet. Now you can eliminate some of the frustration
of finding messages in a jumble of mail packets. Combine them all
into one and you only have one place to look.
DATE ZIP - DATZIP11.ZIP
- Correct time and date on ZIP files - Registration $10
DATEZIP is a program to read files created by Phil Katz' PKZIP(tm)
program and change the date-time to the latest date-time of any
file within the "zip" file. Although PKZIP(tm) will do this easily
with the "o" option when you are creating the original file,
sometimes the date and time get changed and all you want to do is
get them back correctly without recreating the file. DATEZIP will
do this in a flash. It will also use wildcards so that an entire
subdirectory or disk full of files can be done at once.
DATEZIP will also not allow incorrect dates to be attached. If the
most recent date of an included file is in the future, the current
date/time will be used.
LOGTIME - LOGTIM11.ZIP
- Add command line to a text file - Registration $10
LOGTIME is a program which takes what you type on the command line
and adds it to a text file. It can also add the current date and
time to the line. It is useful for recording steps in batch files,
a quick simple notebook, recording machine boots, etc.
Small Prime Finder - SPRIME12.ZIP
- Find all small prime numbers less than 2 billion - Registration - postcard
Small Prime Finder is a Windows 95/98/2000/NT/ME program that does
pretty much what the name implies. It will find all prime numbers in any
range you specify from 2 through 2,147,483,647 (all 31 bit integers).
You can choose to create an ASCII text file of the primes found or you
can create a hex file (32 bit long integers) or you can just count them
without creating an output file. Small Prime Finder checks about 180
million numbers per hour on a 300MHz Pentium II ®.
Date Add - DATEAD12.ZIP
- Concatenates files based on date - Registration - postcard
DATEADD is a program that will concatenate one file with another on
a certain date. So what possible use could that be! Well, I needed
to do it for BBS maintenance and maybe someone else can find
another use. I needed to add files to the download directory every
day. I had the files to add several days in advance and I just
wanted a simple way to add a few every day. I considered how I
would do this in a batch file and came up blank. I'm sure there
must be a way to use copy /b and then rename tomorrow's piece...
But it only took 1/2 an hour to write this program so...
INSert DATE - INSDAT11.ZIP
- Inserts date/time info in ascii files - Registration - postcard
INSDATE is a program that will insert times and dates into text
files. Right now you're probably asking what possible use that
could be. Well, it also does elapsed dates. I used it to count up
and down the dates of the Clinton Administration. You could put it
into your autoexec.bat and, every morning, display the days left
until you retire. You could use it to automatically insert dates
and times in form letters or faxes. You could use it to record the
number of days since the last time your computer was booted. This
program is like a bent coat hanger. Not a lot of killer uses but
thousands of possibilities.
DiSK STATus - DSKSTA11.ZIP
- Checks status of floppy disk drives - Registration - postcard
DiSK STATus (DSKSTATx.COM) is a program which checks the status of
a floppy disk drive (A: or B:) and returns an errorlevel that can
be used by another program.
DiSK STATus simply checks the drive and returns the error code that
the BIOS provides. You can then use this error code as a branch in
a batch program to decide what to do next. You can check whether
there is a disk in the drive, is it formated, etc.
Call-CLocK - CCLK30.ZIP
- Stop watch / call timer - Registration $15
Call-Clock is a resident program that puts a digital display of
elapsed time and the cost of phone calls in the top right of the
screen. It is automatically triggered on and off by the modem
carrier or you can start and stop the clock manually. The elapsed
time is also multiplied by a cost per hour that you specify. This
allows you to see a running estimate of the total charge for a
call. Great for reducing those long distance charges or at least
knowing what to expect.
Fast KeyBoard - FKB11.ZIP
- Speed up keyboard cursor - Registration - postcard
Fast Keyboard is a program that can be run in either a resident or
non-resident mode. It speeds up (or slows down) the keyboard
typematic rate. The length of time that you have to hold a key
down before it starts to repeat and the number of repeats per
second after that are both adjustable. The thing that makes this
program different from other similar programs is that it can either
tell the BIOS to change the rate on all ATs with ROM chips dated
after 11/25/85 and, obviously, all PS/2's - OR - the same program
will install a small Terminate and Stay Resident (TSR) section on
older ATs, PCs, and XTs to do the same thing.
