Stanton, located on US highway 34 at mile marker 43, was settled by Swedish immigrants and proudly maintains its Swedish customs. This site documents some of the observances of its Swedish traditions.
Stanton Iowa, with a population of about 700, has been known as the "Little White City" since the 1920s when railroad conductors noted its crisp, clean, and tidy look.
In 1997 the city of Stanton received a certificate of excellence award for its depiction of the immigration history. This award was presented by the American Association of State and Local History at its annual meeting in Denver, Colorado.
In 1997 the city of Stanton also was named the top tourism community of Iowa for populations under 5,000. The award was presented by the Iowa Division of Tourism. Nominated for its uniqueness and continued success, Stanton was cited as an outstanding example of community spirit, doing a good job of highlighting its rich heritage to visitors.
