Evans Hill climb (7/23/11)
at age 78—This was my first race to come in
last. I was in the 65+ category, and was only in CO two days before the race
and wasn’t acclimated; I had to take frequent rest stops above 11,000
feet (The finish was at 14,127 feet.), but at least I finished. As I was
approaching a stop for a break on the way down, I slid forward off the saddle
and onto the top tube, lost control and took a header. I suffered a concussion
and spent 24 hours in a
