Winter Reminders

Winter is coming  and is sure to bring snow along with its colder temperatures! Please be mindful of City ordinances regarding snow removal . Following are a few reminders for residents as we prepare for the season:   SIDEWALKS– The City expects the sidewalks to be cleared of snow within a reasonable amt of time, please be courteous of your neighbors and children using the sidewalks. If the snow is not removed, the City will post a 24-hour notice on the property. If the snow is not removed within 24-hours  of posting, a citation will be issued to the property owner, a fine will be imposed, and the City has the right to remove the snow and assess the property owner.

STREETS-  Parking of vehicles on public streets during any time when snow/ice removal operations are in progress is a violation. Any person violating the ordinance  faces a $50.00 fine

Snow-Parking Ban. It is unlawful to park any vehicle on any public street or alley during and snow removal period. The ban shall continue from the beginning of snowfall to 24 hours after the snowfall had ceased.

Sidewalks. Snow removal from sidewalks is the responsibility of the property owner. You have 24 Hours After the snowfall to clear your sidewalk or the city may do so and bill the property owner.

Snowmobiles and ATVs.  The use of snowmobiles and ATVs is restricted in the City limits as follows.

They shall be operated only on streets that have not been plowed during the snow season.;

They shall not be operated in any park, playground, or upon any other city owned property;

They shall not be operated on public sidewalks or the area between the sidewalk and the curb line commonly referred to as the “parking”.

   City Park

Dexter City Park Winterized-

For those of you still planning activities in the park, please be aware that the restrooms are closed for the season after the first hard freeze. Thank You

   Fall Reminders

Reminder– Items located in the parking– planters, decorative items, ect.., are susceptible to the snow plow and during heavy snow events it may be necessary to push snow back– please have these items removed.

Remember– If you use heat tape for anything water lines that susceptible to freezing, now is a good time to make sure they work– This would also be a good time to remember all hoses from outside facets and check your toilets to see if that leak– a leaking toilet can easily add thousand of gallons of water to your water bill each month

One thing you should NEVER do is blow your leaves (or grass clippings, for that matter) into the street. If your leaves don’t just blow into someone else’s yard for them to rake, they will end up clogging the storm sewer intakes. Yardwaste should be placed in brown paper bags, cardboard, or trashcans clearly marked (“YARDWASTE”). Sorry, leaves placed in plastic bags will not be picked up. Yardwaste burning is restricted to backyards.

  Yardwaste (grass clippings, leaves, twigs, etc.) can be placed on the curb for pick-up on Tuesdays alongside your regular trashcans. To insure pick-up, your yard waste should be out by 7:00 a.m.

• Yard waste must be placed in brown paper yard waste bags (can be purchased at city hall) paper grocery bags, cardboard boxes, or trash cans clearly marked “YARDWASTE”.

 • Bundled brush (tied securely with twine, string or other biodegradable material, weighing less than 50 pounds and in 2” diameter bundles)  may also be placed on the curb for pickup on these dates also.

CITY BURN SITE

Just a reminder that you can  bring brush only. No leaves or twigs.
